Join us as Donielle Nolan, the Greenhouse and Gardens Specialist takes us for a tour through George Mason University's gardens.
This tour will guide you to three agricultural sites on the Fairfax campus; the Innovation Food Forest, Potomac Heights Organic Vegetable Garden, and the Presidents Park Greenhouse, which grows fresh greens hydroponically and serves them at Ike’s dining hall. The Office of Sustainability took over the greenhouse in 2014 and Nolan started the program, which grows 2,000 pounds of fresh produce a year, raising an annual $20,000 to pay for supplies and utilities. The Innovation Food Forest grows fruit, flowers and herbs for the public to share. At Potomac Heights there is a community garden led by the student organization, GOGA.
Experience all three of the sites, get to taste samples of the flavorful microgreens and perhaps eat a fig. If it's raining, the tours may be limited to the greenhouse.
We’ll meet at President’s Park Greenhouse located on Presidents Park Dr. located near Ike’s Diner. See #27 on the GMU map at https://www.gmu.edu/resources/welcome/FairfaxMap16_Info.pdf
